Students benefit from BLG Research Fellowships
As part of our commitment to excellence, we are proud to sponsor one of the largest research fellowship programs for students at Canadian law schools. You can benefit in two ways: our BLG Research Fellowships offer both an exceptional summer experience and a chance to develop your legal skills.
Every summer, 20 law students who have completed first year receive $12,000 to assist a professor conduct a leading-edge legal research project. The law schools select both the students and the projects that will benefit from the BLG funding.
Our Research Fellowships provide you with a unique and generous opportunity, especially after having completed only one year of studies. Here's what some deans have to say about the program:
“From the student's perspective the Fellowship creates a wonderful educational opportunity. The student is provided with a unique opportunity to immerse him/herself in a substantive area of law for a significant period of time.”
Richard Devlin, Dalhousie University's Associate Dean of Graduate Studies.
Devlin adds: “Not only do they develop excellent research and writing skills, they get an insight into the process of how legal knowledge is produced and disseminated. Often they continue to develop this expertise in their later law school studies, frequently by writing papers that build upon their BLG experience.”
According to Mary Anne Bobinski, Dean of the Law School at the University of British Columbia, “There are not many opportunities like this for first-year students.”
(See Law Schools Evaluate the BLG Research Fellowship Program for further comments.)
The BLG Research Fellowship program is concrete evidence of our commitment to helping law students develop their potential. At BLG, the same spirit inspires our training program. You will experience this dedication should you work at our firm for a summer, article at one of our offices or join us as an associate.
