Our Government Relations Group
The Borden Ladner Gervais LLP Government Relations Group represent clients in their relations with governments in Canada at all levels - Municipal, Regional, Provincial and Federal and with Departments, Boards, Authorities and Agencies of each of those Governments.
Our lawyers have extensive experience working with the public sector within and outside government, maintaining excellent contact with those making key decisions. Whether the needed advice is with respect to an analysis of a new legislation initiative or complex policy assessment or the identification of a key contact within the public service in a particular department or with the appropriate elected officials, our lawyers will provide the direction.
Our Services
The Group offers clients the following services:
- Monitoring political and public policy developments.
- Analysing the potential impact of emerging government policy and program changes on client interests.
- Preparing briefs, submissions and presentations to governments on behalf of clients.
- Creating and directing advocacy campaigns on behalf of clients, including communicating on behalf of clients with government decision-makers.
- Development of strategic advice that incorporates political agendas of the day with the technical expertise needed to meet or challenge any public pronouncements.
Our Experience
Members of the Government Relations Group work closely with other members of the firm where technical expertise in an area law will advance the interests of the client. For example, members of the Group work regularly with members of the following practice groups: Public/Private Partnerships, Telecommunications and Broadcasting, Energy Law, Financial Services including Pensions, Tax, Municipal and Health.
