Background
David Miachika is a partner at our Vancouver office and is the Regional Leader of the Construction, Engineering, Surety & Fidelity Practice Group at BLG. Mr. Miachika was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1989. He is a graduate of Dalhousie University Law School with a Bachelor of Laws in 1988. Prior to that, he received a Bachelor of Applied Science (Civil Engineering) from the University of British Columbia in 1981.

- Practice focused on construction and real estate litigation and related matters such as builders liens, construction deficiencies, delay and acceleration claims, professional liability of architects and engineers, insurance law, surety bonds, commercial arbitrations and mediations, condominium and other real property disputes.
- Particular expertise in the areas of builders’ liens, leaky condominiums, construction deficiencies, delay and acceleration claims, professional liability of architects and engineers, sureties and bonding, construction insurance, commercial arbitrations and mediation and strata condominium disputes.
- Has successfully represented developers, purchasers, contractors, engineers, architects, suppliers, landlords, insurers, sureties, property owners, property managers and strata corporations in all levels of court in British Columbia.

- Prior to joining the firm, David worked for Dillingham Construction (now Delta Catalytic) and several other major construction companies as a Project Engineer and Superintendent on significant construction projects in British Columbia and Nova Scotia as follows:

Dillingham Construction: Project Engineer andSuperintendent for various industrial, marine and heavy construction projects including Revelstoke Dam, Expo ’86, the Northeast Coal Project at Tumbler Ridge, Bryon Creek Colliery and Douglas College

Boyd & Garland (Ellis Don): Project Engineer for Dartmouth Shopping Centre, Nova Scotia.
- 1987-1988
Robert McAlpine: Project Engineer for construction of the largest commercial centre in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia.

- Has written and spoken on topics such as Builders Liens, CCDC Construction Contracts, Delay and Acceleration Claims, "Leaky" Condominium Litigation, Homeowner Protection Act and Regulations, Bidding and Tendering, Bonding and Sureties, Builders’ Risk Insurance, Construction Claims and Damages, Condominium Deficiencies and Oppression Remedies, and Tort Liability to Subsequent Purchasers.
- Active member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the Construction Law, Civil Litigation and Environmental Law Sub-sections of the Canadian Bar Association.
- Professional Engineer registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of British Columbia (since 1984).
